Serenity Chiropractic and Wellness

I am tired of this pain.  What is it and what can I do about it?

Why do I experience pain? What is pain anyway? How did I get here? What should I do? These are important questions to ask when experiencing pain. Especially, when the pain effects your daily routines. Chiropractic and therapeutic exercises can help.  In fact, the two go hand in hand. What are you experiencing? Have you ever thought about what is causing this pain? What is pain derived from anyway?

Watch out a little scientific explanation of pain. As every one of us might have experienced some kind of pain from childhood to adult life or later on. Maybe you call the pain a bad thing but actually it is more valuable than you can imagine. Any unpleasant sensation induced by noxious stimuli is labeled as pain. Our body has certain kinds of special receptor cells which are present under the skin, deep in the muscles and joints. These cells receive such stimuli and send those signals to the dedicated certain areas of our brain through the spinal cord where they are interpreted, processed and a response is generated by the brain in reaction to that noxious stimuli. The response may vary from person to person. Maybe the pain limits your mobility or sometimes you can carry out routine life activities while having pain, depending upon the intensity of the painful stimulus. Our brain has an ability to modulate the pain signals and can change the response. Pain can be different in nature, quality and severity.  Also you may be experiencing a referred pain. For example you think your shoulder hurts but actually the problem may be in your neck region (Cervical Spine) or just like you have a herniated disc in your lower back area and may be feeling pain in your leg. This is could be what is known as Sciatica.

Pain is classified into acute pain and chronic pain. The latter lasts longer and affects your quality of life. There are a number of ways to manage the pain. Sometimes the brain releases certain chemicals in the blood to mediate the pain in response to the unpleasant while most often you need to visit a general practitioner to get a drug prescription or they may refer you to the pain clinic, chiropractor depending upon the nature and cause of the pain. The Chiropractor assesses your problem and administers the treatment for your musculoskeletal problems like Muscle pain, Joint pain (Low back, Shoulder joint, Knee joint or hand), Bone Pain (Shin Splint) etc.

The treatment plan by the Chiropractor is not limited to the adjustment of your body parts. Along with the exercise and massage at the clinic, but a home therapeutic exercise plan is of equal importance. A home exercise plan (HEP) may consist of practicing posture training, stretching exercises and strengthening exercise. A number of researchers advocate that the adherence to the home exercise plan as the patients who follow the instructions and complete their daily exercise regimen are good at gaining their goal early as compared to the others who do not follow their treatment plan at home. When you perform the exercises at home it adds confidence in you and your body responds in a way that the recovery may last longer. Some of you may be anxious enough to learn new and easy exercises as a part of the treatment plan.

Sometimes exercise or instructions must be followed at home. For example, posture training at the office is not sufficient but you may need to practice it most times of the day to avoid further damage or injury to the body. Chiropractic and muscle therapy can be instrumental in treating pain and creating a level of body awareness that help you get in touch with your body as to what it needs. I would be happy to talk to you about your individual issues. Call or message me for more specific details. Have an amazing day!
